At Gt.Yarmouth and Caister GC the season’s matches commenced against Society Norfolk Golf Captains.
Before play the normal fare of Bacon rolls and Coffee (of differing varieties) was served. The Captain of Gt. Yarmouth and Caister GC, Nick Mobbs, generously presented all players with a gift of Basils Ball Bag.
The Captains led us off on a breezy showery afternoon to play round the oldest golf course in Norfolk. Being quite flat and a links style, the 1st 9 situated around the racecourse, the lines of play were not always easily determined.
No clowns here, they’re on the course
The rain did abate but not the wind as the afternoon progressed. The wind farm off the coast was working well. Although being close to the coast the normal seaside attractions of the circus and caravans were evident.
Malcolm receives the Crocus Trophy from Gary
After everybody returned to the clubhouse to enjoy the rolling evening meal of Whale and Chips followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and Ice Cream the customary short speeches and results were announced.
SCAGC won the match 6 – 4 and Malcom gratefully received the trophy from Gary.
This makes Malcolm the Captain with the longest unbeaten tenure, having been elected in October 2019 and not having lost a match. Long may this continue.
