At last SCAGC were back into action at Links Newmarket with the 1st event of the 2021 season the Millennium Trophy.
After the standard bacon rolls and coffee the Captain-in-waiting Malcolm Knobel-Forbes led us off at Noon on a blustery day to battle the course and the elements.
Due to the wind and the exposure on certain parts of the course there was a lot of social distancing being practiced with visits to the trees, bunkers, rough and the gallops very much in evidence. Occasionally fairways and greens figured into the equation.
Respite!
Eventually all groups made their way back to the clubhouse for some respite from the wind and a lovely meal of Roast Pork followed by Apple Crumble. It was nice to return to some sort of normality though the absence of showering facilities meant that Jackets and Ties were not required and the meal was served on a rolling basis.
Stuart Watson Winner 2021
After all the cards were collated by the official scorer, Keith Howlett, the winner was the Hon. Sec. Stuart Watson. Malcolm presented Stuart with the Millennium Trophy with still a large part of the field in attendance, maybe happy just to be out and socialising again and catching up with old friends. Congratulations to Stuart on his 1st triumph at a SCAGC singles event.
