Following on from the resumption of matches last week against Norfolk this week presented us with the 1st Triangular match with the Herve Trophy contest at Romford Golf Club. The numbers were reduced from previous year’s due to clubhouse restrictions.
Our hosts Essex provided us with glorious weather for the afternoon match preceded by a full breakfast and coffee. All 30 players eventually made it on time there being a few traffic incidents prior to the match.
The course was in lovely condition, mainly due to the fairway irrigation system that some found easier than others. The James Braid design makes the most of a limited piece of land surrounded by habitation though it’s was best to keep an eye on where other players were due to some crossings.
After the lovely afternoon in the sun and the re-hydration process in full swing, dinner of Chicken Pie followed by Strawberries & Cream was served to everybody welcome satisfaction.
The results were announced with the scores being Herts 295, Captain Neil seen getting the Wooden Spoon; SCAGC 320 (2nd again) and Essex 329, Captain Terry seen receiving the Herve Trophy.
Unfortunately no photo of Captain Malcolm as no trophy. Maybe he’ll remember to bring a proper shirt to the next match.
