3 Counties Shield
The 3 Counties Shield between ourselves, Beds and Norfolk was played this year at Girton GC on a lovely warm summer’s day. The course was in it’s normal very good condition.
We started in the clubhouse with the standard beverages and bacon rolls. With a 1 tee start it was a bit of a wait until the last groups teed off. I’m sure the range was put to good use.
The teams were led off by their respective Captains, with the Girton President acting as starter. (Hugh’s wife, Sue)
Overall there were some good scores, mainly from SCAGC but an honourable mention to John Simpson from Norfolk with 38 points. This matched the score by current Vice Captain John Williams.
As is customary there were 2 Nearest the Pins and these were won by Trevor Greef (Norfolk) on 8th and Steve Lang (SCAGC) on 17th.
After a lovely dinner of Lamb followed by desert the scores for the teams were announced with SCAGC winning with 452, 2nd were Norfolk with 437 and 3rd were Bedfordshire with 401. We hope they enjoyed their day regradless.
The Shield was presented to Captain Alan by the Bedfordshire Captain Les.
