Captain’s Day 2025 was played at Links, the home club of this year’s Captain Chas Vincent. All were welcomed into the Clubhouse by the Captain and each given a commemorative golf Ball and SCAGC hat.
After donating a prize for the traditional tombola the normal refreshments of Bacon Roll/Coffee were supplied.
Vice Captain, Guests and previous Captains led the start from the 1st tee, all seeming to play well as those with later tee times were rushed to finish their beer for an earlier tee off.
At the halfway hut we were provided with more food and drink, always very welcome on a warm day. The course was running due to the recent very dry conditions but the tees and greens were still in fine condition. Ideally set up for some good scoring.
There were various on course prizes, 2 Nearest the Pins on 9 & 12, Nearest in 2 on 14 and Closest to the Line on 18. These were won by Richard Douglas – Links (9th); Ray Bolton – Links (12th); Steve Kane – Knebworth (14th) and John Aspinall – Ely (18th)
The Guest prize was won by Roderick Gibbs from Northamptonshire.

Further prizes for the Front and Back 9’s were won by Graham Denny – Suffolk (F9) and Stan Hodgson – Links (B9).
Another prize played for on the day was the Liaison Officers Trophy, which was won by Ray Smith – Barkway.
The main Captain’s Day Trophy winners were; 3rd Simon Bottomley – Brampton (36 C/B from 5 others); 2nd Ray Smith – Barkway (39); 1st John Thompson – St Neots (43).
A big thank you to Chas for hosting the day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
