This year’s match against Sussex took place at Brampton Park GC on Tuesday 18th July. We were welcomed by David Creek to his home club and explained that Brampton was in a dry spot so the fairways were not as lush as could be. However the course was in fine condition with any iffy lies purely due to the inconsistency of the player.
In keeping with the recent weather the day was not hot with some clouds and even a brief shower, probably more water from the sky than we could get out of the showers post round!
The photo is of the 4th on which there were a couple of Birdies.
After sandwiches and chips the teams were led by Stuart and Ian and their partners in buggies. The majority of us followed on foot on fortunately a flat course with plenty of water hazards.
Post golf and a lovely meal of Gammon in Rosemary Sauce followed by Eton Mess the presentations were done.
The two nearest the pins were both won by players from Sussex. Wine presented by Sussex Captain Ian Potter.
Overall the match was Halved at 4 – 4. Cambridgeshire retain the Trophy having won it last year at Crowborough Beacon.
We look forward to recommencing battle and friendships next year as part of the mini tour including a match against Kent.
