On a nice sunny but breezy day the battle for the Ryder Replica resumed at Hintlesham GC after an absence of 2 years due to some nasty virus curtailing the usual April fixture.
The team of Suffolk Captains was led by soon to be retiring President Gary Slaymaker and the Cambridge Captains were led by new Captain Mark Jones.
After the tradition light lunch of Coffee, of whichever variety was your choice, and Bacon Roll the teams ventured out onto the course which was in lovely condition despite the recent lack of rain.
In the Thomas Gainsborough inspiring lovely Suffolk countryside the course which opened in 1990 was enjoyed by both teams, the amount of mature trees belying the relatively young age of the course.
The gentle little 200 yard + Par 3 hole is shown.
After 8 friendly matches the players retired to the clubhouse for some much need refreshments and the excellent evening meal of Chicken & Veg followed by Crumble with custard, though some has ice cream as well.
The result of the match was that Suffolk retained the Ryder Replica with an overall match score of 4 1/2 to 3 1/2.
Captain Mark can be seen presenting the trophy to President Gary. Hopefully SCAGC can manage to get their hands on the trophy next year when we might actually play Suffolk outside of Suffolk.
