After a slightly damp morning the players gathered for the 2023 Nicholls Salver at Saffron Walden GC on 20th June. As with internal SCAGC matches this year the day started with various brands of coffee and a full buffet breakfast.
Play commenced at 1.30 in dry sunny weather on a well prepared course with the greens running at a good pace.
The Nearest the Pins (5th & 18th) were won by Chas Vincent and Ray Smith.
The idea of finishing the game having a quick drink and doing the presentation was delayed by the enthralling ending of the 1st Ashes test being shown in the clubhouse. However once Australia had luckily managed to keep their wickets intact and score the required runs the presentation took place.
In 3rd place was Steve Searle with 35 points, 2nd was Lyn Griffiths with 37 points and winning with a magnificent 40 points, after 4 pints of Barkway Coffee with breakfast, was Ray Smith.
