This year’s Millennium Trophy was contested at Ely City GC on Wednesday 18th May. The weather had suitably improved since last week’s excursion to Oxfordshire with not a drop of rain in sight.
After the traditional bacon rolls and coffee/tea/beer play commenced just after midday from the 1st tee.
The course was in good condition and although preferred lies were still in play it did not seem necessary. The greens seemed a little slower than we have had at Ely in the past.
After golf, in a change from tradition there was no requirement to change into Jacket and tie. This seemed to be appreciated by the players and especially the Captain as he felt he couldn’t wear his ceremonial Chain of Office afterwards without such attire.
After the lovely meal of Steak Pie followed by Cheesecake the results and prizes were presented.
The Nearest the Pins for bottles of wine were on the 2nd and 12th.
The winner of the Millennium Trophy was John Tellett with 39 points, 2nd was Alan Wood and 3rd was Steve Kane.
