Rain…At least for the earlier starters, even Sun God Stumpy had to deploy the umbrella to begin with. the rest of the day was played out in drier, fresher conditions on the well prepared (as expected) Links course at Newmarket.
A good field of 56 players contested the Jubilee Trophy which is a team event with the best 3 scores from each club counting toward the team score to take the trophy.
To keep things interesting there were also individual winners for each of 3 handicap categories of about 1/3rd of the field in each.
After the evening meal of Roast Lamb & Trifle the results were as follows:
Handicap 17+ Winner – Steve Andrews, Girton GC; 2nd Kevin Macdonald, Links GC
Handicap 13 – 16 Winner – John Harris, Ramsey GC; 2nd Ian Sheppard, Bourn GC
Handicap 0 – 12 Winner – Trevor Dean, Girton GC; 2nd Dominic McCormack, Bourn GC
As can be seen from the limited results above the teams of Bourn and Girton were well represented with the eventual winners being Girton beating Bourn into 2nd place. The Girton winning scores came from Steve Andrews, Trevor Dean and Hugh Carlisle.
