With summer continuing nicely 16 players made the long journey from Hampshire to contest the annual Cuba Trophy match at Cambridge Meridian GC.
After some last minute changes full teams were eventually fielded by both sides. Thanks very much to Liz Wade stepping in for Hampshire to create a little bit of history becoming, as far as anybody is aware, the 1st lady to participate in our intercounty matches.
After some sandwiches and chips the respective Captains and their partners led the teams off.
The course was in good condition with the gorse developing nicely and trees becoming more evident as the course matures.
The weather stayed fair and all players seemed to enjoy their day.
The players returned to the clubhouse and enjoyed a few beverages on the terrace in the sunshine before the lovely dinner of Cow Pie, Desperate Dan size, followed by Apple Pie.
After dinner the prizes for the Nearest the Pins were presented to Liz Wade from Hampshire on 3rd and Mark Jones on 17th.
The result of the match was that Cambridgeshire managed to triumph 5 1/2 to 2 1/2.
