The annual Captains Salver between Leicestershire & Rutland, Derbyshire and Cambridgeshire was played at Melton Mowbray GC on Friday 8th August.
Barkway Coffee was available from a bar that opened at a proper time as was normal coffee and Bacon Rolls.
A single tee start was led off by the respective leaders of the Counties in pursuit of the Captains Salver.
The course was presented in a lovely condition but the greens seemed difficult to read for those that hadn’t played there before.
There were 3 Nearest the Pins, one of which was sponsored by the House Manager. Two of these were won by a local member Gerry Stephens and the other by our very own Peter Nightingale – who became very protective of the Pork Pie.
There was also a prize for the best score from each team, the SCAGC winner being Mike Wallis.
The team prize of the Captains Salver was retained by the winners from last year – SCAGC with 410 points from Derbyshire on 400 points with the hosts only managing to acquire 369 points.
