This year’s Society Tankards took place at Links, the home club of the incoming Captain – Chas Vincent.
The day started with reasonable weather as the present Captain and Vice Captain started out accompanied by their partners.
Unfortunately rain set in for the later groups but everyone returned to the clubhouse well in time for the AGM.
After the dinner of Roast Pork, with some proper crackling, the AGM took place.
The main order of business was the transfer of Captain from John Thompson to Chas Vincent.
This took place with due ceremony, the Chain of Office being handed over to Chas and then the presentation if the Past Captain’s badge to John. The badge this year was specially made by John.
The background to my past captain’s badge is that when my good friend Graham Powell passed away his daughter gave me some of Graham’s society items including Graham’s past captains badge. Graham Powell was society captain in 2005 and captain of Abbotsley GC 1991. Sadly, when another golfing friend Bill Bushby passed away I inherited a golfing tie pin, Bill was captain of St Neots 2000. So, I thought to remember them by I would get the St Neots jeweler Paul Goldstraw to fix the two together and their memory would live on in some small way.

The results of the Society Tankards were that Steve Searle took both Nearest the Pin’s which must have helped himself and his partner, Mark Jones, to victory. Runner’s up were Steve Whitney & Craig Young.
