This year’s Tankards was played at Girton GC. The day started with a nice early opening of the bar allowing players to fuel their tanks prior to play. Coffee/Tea and Bacon Rolls were also supplied.
An early start of Midday to allow time for the AGM later saw 48 members get randomly drawn together as a pair to play for the Society Tankards.
This was a better ball competition played of full handicap to the disappointment of the lower handicappers.
The weather was kind to us for late September and the course was in nice condition, grass having now grown after the very hot summer.
Post golf the players returned for the AGM and then the meal of a Carvery with the Girton speciality of Creamy Leeks followed by Apple Crumble and Custard.
For the last event of the year there was a bottle of wine available for Nearest the Pins on each of the 5 Par 3’s. The winners of these were;- 4th Steve Kane; 6th & 17th John Aspinall; 8th Alan Wood & 12th Roger Tacq.
The results of the Tankards were that the winners were Tony Jenkins and Chas Vincent beating Dave Woods and Phil Black on countback. Third were home player Hugh Carlisle with his partner of the day Ian Sheppard.
