Our last match of the season was held at Cambridge Meridian GC against Northamptonshire for the newly presented Slàinte Mhath Salver on 7th September. As can be seen from the leading group it was still summer with sunshine and shorts in abundance.
After a filling lunch of sandwiches and lots of chips play commenced from the 1st tee at midday.
The course had benefitted from the recent rain and fairways were turning green and the greens becoming receptive. All players seemed to enjoy the course even if there was an unwelcome visitor on one of the holes.

After the golf was completed and the teams had returned to the clubhouse we were again treated to a substantial meal of Meat pie with veg and more chips followed by apple pie and Ice cream.
As with all of our events there were 2 Nearest-the-Pins for a bottle of wine. Honours were shared with the winners of these being Roy Stanton, Northants President, on the 5th and Steve Kane on the 17th.

The overall result was also shared with the match being halved 4 – 4. The new trophy, The Slàinte Mhath Salver, which was kindly donated by Malcolm Knobel-Forbes was unveiled and shared between the two teams.
We look forward to next year’s encounter.
