Another away venue, this time at Rushcliffe GC near Loughborough.
The course was built in about 1930; I can only say, the course architect must have liked mountaineering. He built the club house on top of a mountain with amazing views of the course running through the valleys below the club house. However, to arrive back at the club house, the 18th hole was built on a 1 in 4 hill, just what you look forward to at the end of a very hot day!
The course was brilliantly laid out with some unbelievable par 3’s, an absolute challenge to any golfer. Local knowledge proved the key to victory for Nottinghamshire, who won with 325 points, SCAGC 315 and Shropshire 308.
An excellent lunch and evening meal was provided by our hosts Nottinghamshire and the club bar had a wonderful range of ales, including “Mild Bitter” which is rarely found in Cambridgeshire.
