Claret Jug 2019

Yet again the sun shone on the good Gentlemen of SCAGC and their visitors from Kent for the annual match for the Claret Jug at Ely City GC.

The majority of the visitors were advised by 1 of their number to allow plenty of time for travel due to the A14 works, which they did, and arrived in plenty of time having used the A11/A142 and avoided the works entirely. The advising member continued to use the A14 through the works.

After a relaxed morning of Coffee, Beer, Sandwiches & Chips battle commenced at from the 1st tee for all 10 matches.

The teams were led off by their Captains, Roger Cruttenden for Kent and John Fuller for Cambridgeshire, accompanied by their partners.

The course was very good, the weather was lovely and I’m sure some of the golf matched the conditions.

The initial results were looking very healthy for Cambridgeshire, but a late rally by the Kent team saw them run out as victors 5 matches to 3 with 2 halved games.

After a lovely carvery dinner The Claret Jug was happily presented to Roger by John.
