The 2021 Annual General Meeting was held at Saffron Walden GC on the evening of 7th October after the Society Tankards. The following is a summary and not an official record of the meeting.
The meeting started with a report from Captain Malcolm, who has had an initially frustrating start 2 years ago but persevered and successfully led the Society through a difficult period. During this time there have been some members that have passed and these were remembered with a toast to ‘Absent Friends’. Malcolm then went on to detail the successes, and some not so successful achievements, under his leadership this year when we were allowed back to play.
The Treasurer then gave a report indicating that cost are increasing all the time and match fees will need to be reviewed but it is the intention to try and keep them to £35 for next year. The Treasures report is attached. Treasurers Report – 6 10 21[7591]
Later on the Hon. Secretary gave his report with explanations of the change of Dinner venue, the variation in the way costs are incurred and possibilities of enabling the Society to deal with these. To this effect a few changes to the Constitution were proposed to enable the Hon. Sec. to utilise all Cambridgeshire clubs affiliated to CAGU and one event to a non affiliated club out of County. It was also proposed to remove the word ‘Society’ from the Title so that we become Cambridgeshire Area Golf Captains. These changes were agreed by the membership present. The members were also informed that Malcolm Knobel-Forbes was in line to become the next Vice President of CAGU in December.
The election of Officers for the next year was done ‘en bloc’ with the the changes being that Mark Jones becomes Captain, Maurice Palmer retires from the Committee to be replaced by the incoming Roger Tacq from Ramsey GC, Vice Captain for 2023, and retiring Captain Malcolm Knobel-Forbes sits on the Committee. This was agreed by the members present. Stuart Watson becomes this year’s Vice Captain in addition to remaining Hon. Sec. for 1 more year.
The handover of the Chain of Office from Malcolm to Mark was then done and Mark gave a short speech indicating how much of a privilege it was to be Captain for the next year and he was looking forward to it.
