A bumper field of 42 players gathered at Saffron Walden GC for this year’s contest for one of the oldest trophy’s, the Nicholls Salver. 
Over coffee and bacon rolls the participants were welcomed to Saffron Walden in their Centenary Year by current Club Captain Tony Brown.
The weather and scenery were very pleasant allowing some very good golf to be played on a very well presented course. The greens were a delight, for some, to putt on. Thanks must go to the staff for the effort to prepare the course in such a condition.
During the evening meal we were once again welcomed by Tony Brown who then presented SCAGC Captain John Fuller with a copy of the Saffron Walden GC Centenary book. Also present at the event was a Past Captain of the Society and Saffron Walden, John Latham, who entertained us with anecdotes from history and a few jokes.
There were the customary prizes for Nearest the Pin and also a special prize for a Longest Drive. The winners of these are shown opposite. ( LD, Nick Alderton; NP, Mark Jones; NP, Peter Taylor)
The final results were 3rd Keith Howlett (37pts); 2nd Steve Lang (41pts); 1st Mark Jones (42pts) on his birthday.
