Secretary’s Report

Accounts
The current position continues to remain satisfactory to the Committee and the Auditor. Next year our “Jubilee Year” a budget to entertain SCAGC members and the purchase of a trophy and items of memorabilia has been agreed. This expenditure will obviously reduce our current account by several thousands of pounds; however the balance sheet will still remain healthy.

Membership
2013 Members – 258
2014 Members -267

Match Fees
SCAGC & County Match fees to remain the same for 2015.

Annual Dinner
Annual Dinner is still making a loss. The Committee have studied the situation and will implement changes that will hopefully partly or totally rectify the situation in 2016.

Website
More and more members are using the website which is very rewarding. Next year for the first time the County Team Selection of players will be available on the website, this is not a replacement of the Match Manager’s responsibilities, all entries and the link between members and the Captain will still remain their responsibility.
The Classified Section introduced last year will be discontinued due to lack of support.

Jubilee Year
Information relating to the revised location of the Annual Dinner and the new “Jubilee Trophy” I will leave to our 2015 Captain Malcolm Coe.

Committee Members
At the last AGM due to the time factor the Gog Magog GC were unable to announce their candidate for Captaincy of the SCAGC for the year 2017. I am delighted to announce that member will be Maurice Palmer.

SCAGC Constitution
The Captain referred to the revised wording within the Constitution and the reasons relating to these changes.
Approved and signed.
The Captain thanked Geoff Welton and Ian Pountain for their time and the professional manor into which they revised the Constitution wording.

Captain’s Report
I have been honoured to represent the Society as Captain over the past year and I have enjoyed it immensely although the standard of my golf could have been much better.
Lots of dinners to represent the Society at and you will be surprised to hear I have actually lost weight and hence the sylph like figure you see before you.
Thank you for passing the minor changes to the Constitution – this will prevent future problems for the Society.

The year started with the Annual Dinner at Queen’s and we were well looked after with good food, good speaker and of course good company – apologies for the sound system as I was made aware some of you had a problem with it. It was good to see so many of you there with your guests and no doubt our Jubilee Dinner next year will also be well attended.
We have played 12 County Matches this year resulting in 4 wins and a half and creditable performances in the lost matches and I thank all the members who played both enjoying the company and the weather which other than one small shower has been great. We were blessed with one or our member’s David Littlechild having a hole in one at Eaton GC when playing in our Norfolk match – David please accept this small trophy to commemorate your achievement.
A big thank you to the Match Managers for the work they put in to make them all go smoothly and a particular thanks this year to Keith Howlett who has set up a result’s screen at some matches and in particular at our own competitions – a small donation to you all is awaiting after the AGM as a thank you from me.
Thank you to the clubs who have hosted us this year and in particular to Girton GC for permitting SCAGC to hold Committee meetings in their boardroom. To you the competitor who have in good numbers to make the days so enjoyable. To the Club Liaison Officers for their efforts in encouraging the membership to participate in Society functions although I know some of you struggle with this responsibility partly because of the lethargy of some members.
Life has been made easy – at the top – (only two nights after matches/functions do I not remember crawling into bed but I was there in the morning) and this is because you Gentlemen have a hard working Committee and a particular thank you to John Bufton who will be leaving the Committee this year and of course our Hon. Secretary and Treasurer David Orwell who has given us all a great deal of support and I reiterate what I have said before that your input in arranging match venues, meals, clothing, the website and looking after our finances – not least the Mixed Match is very much appreciated by us all. My Charity this year is Addenbrookes Charitable Trust and I thank you all for your generous contributions which amount to £1000.

Lastly thank you to all for allowing me to be your Captain – I have had a wonderful year.

The 2015 Captain

Malcolm Coe (Links GC) formally proposed by Tony Jenkins Captain 2014 as the SCAGC 2015 Captain.

Chain of Office and Captain’s tie presented to Captain Malcolm who then made his acceptance speech;

2015 Captain’s Acceptance Speech;
I am delighted and honoured to have been elected Captain of “The Best Society in Existence” for 2015 Jubilee Year.
Before I advise the members of plans and aspirations for the year ahead, I would like to congratulate Tony and present him with his Past Captain’s badge in recognition of the excellent 2014 season we have enjoyed under his first class Captaincy. Your Committee and myself have spent some time discussing ideas and aspirations for the” Jubilee Celebrations” and have some interesting and exciting plans for your enjoyment next year.
We effectively begin the” Season” with the “Annual Dinner Banquet”, which originally was planned for the magnificence of “King’s College Great Hall”. Unfortunately, attempts at negotiate a 2015 price that would be acceptable to the membership failed and therefore the gentlemen’s black tie function will revert back to “Queens’ College” on the 2nd April 2015. I am delighted to inform you that the ticket price this year will be £55 which will include;
A wine reception in the historic “Old Hall” for all attendees, thereafter in the “Cripps Hall” a three course dinner including table wine, followed by an artisanal cheese board with a glass of port and finishing with coffee and mints. I hope as many members as possible with their guest(s) will attend this special occasion in the history of our Society.
There will be the normal full season of matches and prize competitions for your enjoyment, to include for the first time” Jubilee Trophies” which include individual and club awards, full details will be published next year.
Finally, I express my gratitude to you, the members for putting trust in me to steer the SCAGC through an important milestone in its history and pledge my enthusiasm to ensure that all have a great year.
